About Tumkur City & Transport Facility:
Tumkur is a small industrial city about 70 km from Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka. It is also known as the ‘Coconut City’ due to numerous palm trees found in this town. Not only does it consist of some major industrial companies such as WIPRO, TVS Electronics and System Consultant Confirmation of India; but is also involved in production of rough cotton, blankets, watches and ropes. In 2011, Tumkur city was accorded as the corporation city of Kartnataka.
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has a divisional office in Tumkur, which connects the city with other major cities like Bangalore. Two major highways connect Bangalore and tumkur; NH 4 and NH 206. Other than Bangalore, which is 73 kms from Tumkur, Tumkur is also well connected to Doddaballapur (57 kms), Tiptur (73 kms), Shravanabelagola (110 kms), Chintamani (122 kms), Hassan (128 kms), Mysore (154 kms), Madikeri (230 kms) and Mangalore (301 kms). All the above cities are linked through KSRTC and through a few private travel services as well.
There is a direct train service between Tumkur and Bangalore. The details are as follows: No. 06501 Bangalore to Tumkur leaves Bangalore at 5:40 am and reaches Tumkur at 6:50 am. For return, the train, 06502, leaves Tumkur at 8:15 am and reached Bangalore at 9:50 am with only three stops, Yesvantpur, Chikbanavar and Kyatsandra, in between.
The nearest airport from Tumkur City is the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA), which is roughly 67 kms from Tumkur. BIA is one the busiest airports in the country and connects all major flights to the rest of the country and world. Other airports near to Tumkur are Mysore Airport (125 kms), Salem Airport (220 kms) and Bajpe Airport, Mangalore (243 kms).
