    BAMS Admission Through NEET Counselling In Karnataka

    This is the first time NEET entrance test scores are being considered for admission in AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) courses. How ever many state govt. and universities have raised the objection for the new eligibility criteria.

    BAMS Ayurveda courses is of 5.5 years. Aspirants must have completed 17 years on or before the 31st day of December of the academic year of admission. This article will provide you all the necessary details about BAMS course, colleges in Karnataka.

    BAMS ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY:

    • NEET UG – 2018 qualifying marks for admission to BAMS/BHMS/BUMS : A candidate must secure following marks to above stated courses.
    • Candidate belonging to OPEN category must secure minimum 50 percentile (119/720) marks in NEET UG – 2018.
    • Candidate belonging to SC/ST/OBC category must secure not less than 40 percentile (96/720) marks in NEET UG – 2018.
    • Candidate belonging to SC/ST/OBC category with Person with Disability claim must secure not less than 40 percentile marks in NEET UG – 2018.
    • Candidate belonging to OPEN category with Person with Disability claim must secure not less than 45 percentile marks in NEET UG – 2018.
    Note: Above eligibility score is as per the last/latest official notification from Ministry of AYUSH. However Karnataka State Ayurvedic colleges and many other state authorities have filed an objection and demanding the changes (To lower the eligibility score in NEET).     CONFUSION:


    As we all know that,  NEET counselling has been categorized into 2 section: All India Quota (15%) and State Quota (85%). Many candidates are confused with questions like whether AIQ counselling will be done by the MCI or not. For AYUSH courses there is no AIQ Counselling. Counselling will be done same as every year (separate state counselling by state govt. and respective state university). It's just the NEET exam scores which is added as an eligibility criteria and rest all BAMS admission related process will be taken care by the respective states.

    BAMS ADMISSION PROCEDURE IN KARNATAKA TILL 2017:

    It is important to know for the student about ayurveda admission process to avoid misconception, wrong assumption and make timely decision to make the most out of the available opportunities.

    Karnataka state have highest number of Ayurveda colleges. With more than 60+ colleges and with 4000+ BAMS seats makes Karnataka the hub for Ayurveda education. BAMS colleges in Karnataka are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science, Bangalore.

    Till academic session 2017, all the admission for BAMS was being considered as below.
    • 15-20% seats were allocated only for domicile of Karnataka (Admission through KEA-KCET Exam for Karnataka students).
    • Remaining 75-80% seats used to be filled by the respective colleges management as per their admission criteria (Direct/Walk-In/Management Quota). Any non Karnataka student having minimum 50% in physics, chemistry and biology were eligible to get direct BAMS admission without any national level entrance.
    • Fees packages of BAMS colleges in Karnataka was between 12L-23L (Fees for 5.5 years)
    • All admissions were on the basis of first come first serve basis and above mentioned fees packages used to varies from college to college.

    BAMS ADMISSION 2018 - NEET COUNSELING IN KARNATAKA:

    As on 27th July '18 there is no update regarding NEET counselling as Ayurveda colleges in Karnataka are not in favour of current BAMS admission criteria (199 and 96 score in NEET for General Merit and OBC, SC, ST candidates). As well as there is no clarity for number of seats being allotted for Karnataka state domicile students (Till last year it was 15-20%), Non Karnataka students through NEET and number of Management Quota seats. There is a strong possibilities in terms of Fees structure for student's being enrolled through NEET which could be b/w 3-3.5L per annum as per the un-official conversation/update by college authorities.
