Established in 1940, Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences holds the vision for imparting the knowledge of Ayurveda. Located in Manipal, Karnataka, the institution took its inspiration from the late Dr. U. Krishna Muniyal who founded the college in 1940. Dr. U. Krishna Muniyal was an Ayurveda scholar and had 40 years experience. He was a direct disciple of Pandit Taranath who was an Ayurveda scholar and treated Mahatma Gandhi several times.

The college is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science, Bangalore and approved by the Ministry of Ayush, and Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), New Delhi.

The college offers BAMS degree course as per the syllabus of the Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi. The college also offers MD degree course (Masters Degree in Rasa Shastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana).

About Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Science
The college has an exclusive location. It is in Udupi District of Karnataka, on the west coast of India, 60 kms north of Mangalore, 330 Kms south of Goa, and 11 Kms. off National Highway 17 connecting Kanyakumari to Mumbai. It is situated on a plateau commanding a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea on the west and the Western Ghats range on the east. The surroundings are picturesque, comprising of rural farm lands.
The college focuses on Yoga and meditation for the overall improvement of students.
Dr. U. Krishna Muniyal Memorial Trust (R) provides career options after B.A.M.S. in Ayurvedic clinics, nursing homes, Ayurvedic hospitals, Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing units, cultivation of herbal gardens by availing various schemes, faculty in Ayurvedic colleges, etc.
The college follows the scientific method of training students and it also encourages students to follow Ayurvedic research
The college holds an in house hospital called Muniyal Ayurveda Hospital & Research Institute, a super-specialty ayurvedic hospital. Extensive practical training is conducted in the attached 150 bedded Ayurvedic hospital. It is very useful for the students in gaining practical exposure.
